• 7-color (CMYK + Lc + Lm + Lk). Expanded gamut for photographic and skin-tone work. Common in shops running mixed wrap, vehicle graphics, and photo-quality output. Light Black extends shadow detail on photographic content.
• 8-color (CMYK + Lc + Lm + Or + Gr). Maximum gamut configuration without White. Orange and Green extend color reach into Pantone-tight brand-color territory. Common in brand-graphics shops doing Pantone-critical retail work.

How to confirm your TrueVIS is actually on the TR2 platform

The single most common Roland TrueVIS ink mix-up is buying TR2 when the machine is on an older ink platform that requires a firmware-and-ink-system upgrade before TR2 will run. Here’s the platform map across the TrueVIS family:

• Roland TrueVIS VG3-640 — TR2 native. Ships with TR2 from factory. No upgrade needed.
• Roland TrueVIS VG3-540, SG3-540, SG3-300, VF2-640 — TR2 native. All third-generation TrueVIS models ship TR2-ready.
• Roland TrueVIS VG2-640, VG2-540, SG2-540 — TR2 native. Second-generation TrueVIS models run TR2 as native ink.
• Roland TrueVIS VG-640, VG-540, SG-540, SG-300 — TR2 only after upgrade. First-generation TrueVIS machines originally shipped with the previous TR ink platform; a Roland firmware and ink-system upgrade is required before TR2 will run. Without the upgrade, you need the older TR-series ink.

• Operating environment: 20–32°C, 35–80% RH non-condensing per Roland’s VG3-640 environmental specifications. Tampa Bay’s high summer humidity is within spec but pushes the upper end — operating-environment monitoring matters for color-critical work.
• White pouch agitation: TR2-WH White pouches need pre-use shaking to redistribute settled pigment. Follow Roland’s published pouch agitation procedure before seating a fresh White pouch on a White-configured VG3-640.
